summer

Oh this isn't what you're supposed to eat before 4th of July weekend? Major bikini fail but whatever it tasted really good. Yes my yogurt looks like a 5 year old made it. I have a crazy obsession with sprinkles. I'm pretty sure the shitty color dyes in the sprinkles cancel out any healthy eating in my life.

This summer thing is happening. The June gloom is gone and we've had the most beautiful days here. I love waking up to sunshine and not gloom. Olive REALLY loves waking up with the sun so much that she is back to her 5am wake up, you know to make sure she sees the sunrise. This morning is was 4:30 as an extra special treat. The child does not like sleep. I'm hoping she realizes that sleep is actually really super cool and gets a few more hours in.  I would be happy with anything in the 6 or 7 area but this 5 stuff is brutal. Or I guess it is for Blake who actually gets up with her. Today I only got to sleep an extra 30 min cause Blake came in with a bowl of oatmeal for Olive and asked for milk. Yep squeezing milk from the teet while I'm trying to open my eyes is one hell of a wakeup.
Note to self: Start pumping at night.

Once we were awake the day was fine. Olive actually took a nice 2 hour nap this morning while I got to wash my hair and get dressed and actually take my time which was a nice treat. We met up with my new mom friend and her baby for some coffee at the OC Mart Mix. There was a big ol fluffy couch where we sat and let the little ones play. Olive isn't really one to sit and chill but she did pretty good for about an hour. Sitting and enjoying coffee with a wild 9 month old isn't exactly relaxing but I'm figuring it all out with. It's all about the right mix of toys and enough room to feel like she has freedom. I spent most of the time picking up her toys as she threw them over the couch but she was having fun so I was happy. She ended up spilling my iced coffee all over me twice which was a really good look for my white shirt. After chatting for a bit we walked around and then discovered there were food trucks so we got some lunch and sat for a bit. Olive hit her 2.5 hour mark and she was ready for a nap. If she is really entertained she usually won't fuss when its nap time but she was in the stroller and lost it so I was trying to shove my pork sliders down my throat while holding her on my lap. I don't blame her, she was tired. Before I even backed out of the parking spot she was asleep. It was a fun mom date and I'm happy to have a new friend!

The rest of the afternoon was spent running some errands and then relaxing. Olive passed out right at 7 so it left the whole night for me and Blake. I decided we needed ice cream and some outside time. I love the longer nights. Usually Blake runs out to get the ice cream while I put Olive to bed but tonight I went and it really felt like summer out there. Tons of families out and about. I feel like it's been a long time since I've seen that. In NY people were always out and about so it wasn't really a big deal and before that I lived in La so it was the same as NY but in suburbia you really get that kids are out of school summer feeling. I dunno maybe its getting old but it felt good.

A sorta cuddle.

Boobs and Bees

If you've ever hung out with me you know I never wear boobie shirts as I call them. Basically I don't show cleavage. I have nothing against other people doing it and I think it looks sexy on most people but it's just never been for me. I'm not ashamed of my boobs, in fact I think they are quite magnificent I'm just weird like that. So today I had one of my I heart Ronson dresses on and it really shows off my cleavage but I love the dress that I just rolled with it. So I take Olive to the park only to get fully attacked by a bee. The fucker flew into my cleavage and then I screamed which a) made Olive start rolling down the hill in her stroller b) I ripped down my top and since I was only wearing a bandeau bra and I exposed everyone to my boobs. This includes the nice man cleaning the picnic tables and the moms and the babies playing in the park. I have no idea how I didn't get stung but I think my spazz dance and ripping off my top worked. It wouldn't be the worst place I've stung. When I was about 6 or so I was swimming in the pool and I took off my bathing suit to go inside for lunch. Ok naked lunch time is a bit weird but I was a kid. Anyways I come back outside and throw on my bathing suit and run to the diving board. All of a sudden and I will never forgot the feeling, I screamed and tore off my suit. A bee stung my crotch. If that's not brutal I don't know what is. This was my first bee sting and I was scared out of my mind and crying hysterical so my poor Grandma put milk and bread on it cause apparently that is supposed to help the stinging. I'm pretty sure that wins that worst place in the world to be stung award right? And then to have milk and bread put on by your Grandma. Double awesome. I'll have to ask my Grandma if she remembers this, I'm sure it will make her laugh.

Me showing skin. First and last time since bees like my boobs.
Anyways I survived the park and the rest of the day was pretty great. We went to a new Farmers Market by the park and got some veggies for dinner and some cherries for my Rosemary and Cherry focaccia bread which I made today. This was my first attempt at a bread like this and it was delicious. Took two days with waiting for it to rise like 4 times and transferring it to different dishes but it was really worth it. I have rosemary in my garden so I've been trying to find fun ways to use it and my friend had suggested this recipe. Olive was a big helper in the kitchen. She made sure to take everything out of the drawers and make a huge mess but it kept her busy for the 15 min I needed in the kitchen.

The rest of the day we hung out at home and played on the floor. Olive had her first Popsicle and I don't think she was super into it. I used peaches and added a tiny bit of this blueberry and purple carrot juice. I thought it tasted really good but I think it was just too tart for her cause she kept making faces everytime it would touch her mouth. I think I'll  have to play around with some other flavors but its a fun treat for the backyard.

I went to kickboxing tonight and I'm feeling nice and sleepy so lets hope Olive feels the same way and lets me get a few hours in. She is still waking up at night but it varies in time. Sometimes she will get up at 11 and other times she will sleep till 1 without a wakeup but without fail she is up at 5 ish so we've been trying to get her to go back to sleep for another hour and it has worked a few days but sometimes she just wants to be up. We've just noticed if she wakes up at 5 and we actually get her up she is so super grumpy till she goes down for her nap so fighting to get her back down for another hour or two really makes a big difference. Oh and I stopped the 30 day shred. I was bored out of my skull!! I did it for a week then I was done. Its a nice warmup but honestly unless you did that at least 10 times a day I don't think you would see too many results. Sorry Jillian but you lost me! I'm going to try to add another day of kickboxing in my schedule if I can since I am happy when I go there.

Summer weekends

*This post has a shit ton of photos so just a warning......

Summer is officially here and we sure had our fair share of sun this weekend. On Saturday we got some sandwiches and headed over to the park for a little picnic. Blake and I played some Frisbee and Olive cheered us on. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the backyard in Olive's mini pool. She only sat in the pool for a few minutes as she was much more interested in standing outside the pool and splashing the water. I think she was most excited when Sierra went in the pool and then got so pumped and started doing laps around the backyard.  Funny pup. We ended the night with some homemade pizza and a really shitty zombie movie.

This morning started off pretty early. Olive wasn't interested in sleeping past 6 so we were up and at em bright and early. When we tried to feed her the chunkier food this morning she was not thrilled at all. She gagged a few times then vomited everything up. Nothing like projective vomit before 7am. All was fine after a good puke. Blake wanted to surf so we decided to have a beach day. We packed up our stuff and headed down to the beach so Olive could take a nap in the car. Once we got there I went down to the beach to watch Blake surf while Olive slept at his parents. After she woke  up we took a walk to get a doughnut and then hung out for awhile. After lunch and a big long nap for Olive we headed down to the beach. Olive seriously loves the beach. She loves hanging out under the umbrella and exploring. She gets really confused when she gets sand on her hands but so far she hasn't shoved any sand in her mouth but I'm sure that is just a matter of time. We took her down to the water and she smiled and laughed the whole time. She had no problem putting her feet in the water and letting the waves splash on her. I'm curious to how she will like it once she can walk. Then Blake and I went for a swim but I got freaked out cause there was a bat ray or some creepy swimmer hanging out near us. I absolutely love swimming in the ocean but I hate touching the ground, like it scares the shit out of me to no end. I blame scuba diving and knowing what critters lurk under the water. It felt good and hopefully the salt water will clear up my teenager acne infested face. Once I got my period I seriously broke out like a teenager and nothing is clearing it up. Sucks! Anyways I'm just getting ready to go to bed. Blake and I both passed out on the couch earlier and he is already in bed. Yep before 8pm. We're so cool.
